In the cramped, rather homely market that services Hauz Khas, Safdarjung Development Area and the students of IIT, cheap eats rule the roost here. Oldest and most popular amongst all of them is Rainbow's. It is a virtual one man army, located amidst newer and flashier international coffee chains. It started out as a bakery and it still sells pastries that date back to the era BL (before liberalization). Do expect a touch of old-fashioned homeliness, though the best thing is the usually fresh and dependable chocolate eclair. Most of the cookies are great. Downstairs is an altogether different avatar with rather unexceptional Indian and Chinese meals at prices attractive enough for the IIT students to flock here.
